Getting Ahead

Getting Ahead is a 14 week program, where participants meet twice a week for two and a half hours to examine their own experience living in instability as well as explore issues in the community that impact poverty, such as banking, housing, jobs, and transportation; providing critical information the community can use to take-action to end poverty.

Participants will learn how to identify personal strengths to help build toward self-sufficiency, work to build financial resources, research community resources, set goals to stabilize personal resources, and receive long term support from people, Marion Matters Inc., and the community to help achieve a stable future.

Someone who would be a good fit would be: someone who wants to change their circumstance, maybe they have tried with little or no success, someone willing to partner with the community to build their support system, must be able to commit to the 14 weeks that makes up the curriculum, or someone that may want to further their education, gain employment, move up at a current job, or even find a new career. Also, must live in Marion County, be over 18 years of age, and not in crisis that would prevent participation.
