James Boleyn

Director of Specialized Dockets, Marion Municipal Court

Originally from Chicago, James Boleyn is a graduate of Shimer College and has built a career at the intersection of behavioral health and the justice system. He began his professional work in community mental health before relocating to Marion in 2003, where he served for eight years with Marion Area Counseling Center. 

In 2011, James joined the Marion Municipal Court as a Probation Officer and has since advanced to Director of Specialized Dockets. In this role, he oversees multiple adult treatment courts and leads cross-system initiatives designed to improve outcomes for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders involved in the justice system. His work emphasizes evidence-based practices, collaboration, and building sustainable community partnerships. 

James has played a key role in advancing local and statewide efforts to better align behavioral health and criminal justice responses. He serves on the steering committee for Stepping Up Ohio, Marion County, where he works alongside community partners to reduce the overuse of jails for individuals with severe mental illness and strengthen access to treatment and support. 

Known for his strategic and collaborative approach, James is committed to developing practical, community-driven solutions that enhance public safety while supporting recovery and long-term stability. 

Outside of his professional work, he enjoys reading, art, music, minor league baseball, and home renovation projects.
